Genghis Tron are a cybergrind / experimental metal band from Poughkeepsie, New York, USA, known for their innovative fusion of grindcore, electronic music, and industrial soundscapes. Combining blistering speed, complex rhythms, and layered electronic textures, Genghis Tron have carved a niche at the intersection of extreme metal and avant-garde experimentation.
Genghis Tron formed in 2004 in Poughkeepsie, New York. Around the time of the band’s formation, vocalist Mookie Singerman sang and played guitar in the two-piece project Glitter Pals with his friend Jake Friedman while attending Vassar College. Friedman later contributed to the track “Laser Bitch” from Genghis Tron’s Cloak of Love EP (2005).
The band’s early material also featured Michael Sochynsky on keyboards and programming (2004–2010, 2020–present) and Hamilton Jordan on guitar (2004–2010, 2020–present), combining electronic textures with aggressive guitar work to create a futuristic cybergrind sound that set them apart. During their initial run, Genghis Tron toured with Behold… the Arctopus, Converge, Kylesa, Gaza, The Dillinger Escape Plan, and The Faint.
Their 2008 album, Board Up the House, was named a “Critic’s Choice” by The New York Times and awarded Album of the Year by Rock Sound. In late 2010, the band took a hiatus, assuring fans they would return with new material.
After a decade of inactivity, Genghis Tron returned on August 10, 2020, beginning work on their third album with Kurt Ballou. The return also saw Nick Yacyshyn join as the band’s first live drummer, and Tony Wolski replacing founder Mookie Singerman on vocals.
