Formed in 2018, Svarta Havet — translated as “Black Sea” — emerged from the Finnish DIY punk and hardcore scene. The band members bonded over a shared love of punk music and community-first ideals, with a focus on antifascist, feminist, trans, and queer politics. Their music is a direct, uncompromising expression of these values, combining raw energy with socially conscious lyrics.
Svarta Havet channel the intensity of hardcore and punk through fast riffs, driving rhythms, and confrontational yet thoughtful vocals. The band currently consists of Anders Henriksson on bass, Jara Pohjonen on drums, Joakim Stolpe on guitars, and Charlotta Green on vocals. Their songs tackle political and social issues head-on, creating music that is as empowering as it is energising. Svarta Havet have quickly gained a reputation within the DIY scene for their passionate live shows and their commitment to inclusivity, solidarity, and political engagement.
