Malthusian is a Dublin-based Death metal band known for a dissonant, cavernous sound that blends elements of Black metal and Doom metal. Their music explores themes of death, darkness, chaos, and Gnosticism, combining crushing riffs, thunderous drumming, and anguished vocals to create an immersive, extreme metal experience.
Formed in 2012, Malthusian quickly established themselves in the international extreme metal scene. Their compositions balance the slow, crushing weight of doom with the aggression of sludge, producing music that is both intellectually dark and physically punishing.
The current line-up features Johnny "JK" King (drums), Matt "MB" Bree (guitars, vocals), Tom "TMK" McKenna (guitars, joined 2019), and Federico "FB" Benini (bass, joined 2023). The band is composed of members from several other notable Irish metal acts, including Altar of Plagues and Conan, bringing together a wealth of experience in extreme metal to deliver tightly focused, crushing performances on both recordings and live shows.
