Witchcraft are a Swedish band formed in 2000 in Örebro, built around a deliberate return to 1970s-inspired heavy rock. Their sound draws from Doom Metal, Proto-metal, and psychedelic rock, but avoids modern polish in favour of warm, analogue recording and a raw, organic feel.
Rather than pushing extremity or speed, Witchcraft focus on tone, feel, and restraint—music that leans heavily on atmosphere and vintage character.
Formed by Magnus Pelander (formerly of Norrsken), the project originally began as a tribute recording inspired by Bobby Liebling of Pentagram and Roky Erickson. What started as a one-off idea quickly evolved into a full band, shaped by Pelander’s dedication to classic heavy music aesthetics and analogue production methods.
Across their albums, Witchcraft have refined a style that sits between doom, psychedelic rock, and classic hard rock, with an emphasis on expressive vocals, fuzz-heavy guitars, and a deliberately unpolished sound. Their identity is rooted less in reinvention and more in preservation—capturing a specific era of heavy music and keeping it alive in a modern context.
Each release reflects a gradual shift in mood and songwriting, from raw retro doom revival to more expansive, progressive-leaning material.
