April Art are a German rock/metal band from Giessen, Germany, known for combining heavy guitar riffs, powerful vocals and catchy melodies with modern production. Their music balances the energy of contemporary metal with accessible songwriting, creating an anthemic sound that sits between alternative rock, hard rock and modern metal.
The band's songs combine driving rhythms, memorable choruses and emotionally charged lyrics, giving them a sound that can move between heavier passages and melodic hooks. Their energetic approach has helped establish April Art as a rising name within Germany's contemporary rock and metal scene.
April Art were founded in April 2014, around a year and a half after the breakup of the band Scarlet Fire. The initial lineup consisted of an unnamed singer, guitarist Philipp Tesarek, bassist Nico Neufeld and drummer Marek Haesler. The name April Art came from the fact that the musicians met in April to make music together again. The original singer subsequently left the band, with Lisa-Marie Watz recruited as her replacement after the group discovered her through a cover band.
With the lineup established, April Art developed a sound built around the contrast between heaviness and melody, using powerful guitar-driven arrangements alongside expressive vocals and memorable hooks. Their songwriting focuses on creating an immediate connection with listeners while retaining the intensity and energy associated with modern alternative metal.
In the following years, there were numerous lineup changes. Guitarist Philipp Tesarek and drummer Marek Haesler left April Art and were replaced by Chris Bunnell and Ben Juelg, respectively. In 2021, Julian Schuetze joined as bassist, replacing former bassist Nico Neufeld. Through subsequent releases and extensive live activity, the band continued to build their profile within the German rock scene, with their ability to move between hard-hitting riffs, melodic passages and large, singalong choruses becoming a defining feature of their music.
