Omen is an American heavy metal band formed in Los Angeles, California, in 1983 by lead guitarist Kenny Powell, previously of Savage Grace. The band quickly made a name for themselves in the emerging US metal scene, signing with Metal Blade Records in 1984 and releasing their debut album Battle Cry, which featured the track “The Axeman,” later appearing on the soundtrack of the 2009 video game Brütal Legend.
Over the years, Omen has become recognized as one of the early forefathers of US power metal, performing alongside legendary acts such as Metallica, Anthrax, Megadeth, and Slayer.
Throughout their career, Omen has featured several lineup changes, but founding member Kenny Powell has remained a constant driving force. Notable members have included vocalists J.D. Kimball and Coburn Pharr, the latter joining for the release of Escape to Nowhere (1988) before moving on to join Annihilator. Their musicianship and commitment to the power metal sound have earned them lasting recognition among metal fans worldwide.
