Primitive Man are an American Doom Metal band from Denver, Colorado, formed in February 2012. Known for their uncompromising sound, they operate at the harsher end of the genre, blending elements of Sludge, Noise, and extreme doom into something deliberately oppressive and unpolished.
Rather than leaning on melody, their approach focuses on density, repetition, and atmosphere—slow, suffocating riffs paired with abrasive textures and bleak, confrontational vocals. It’s not especially easy listening, which is largely the point.
Primitive Man were formed in February 2012 by guitarist-vocalist Ethan Lee McCarthy, bassist Jonathan Campos, and drummer Bennet Kennedy. In October 2012, the band recorded their debut album Scorn at Flatline Audio, establishing the harsh, unfiltered sound that would define their early output.
