Fuck the Facts – Grindcore from Québec, Canada

Fuck the Facts are a Grindcore band from Gatineau, Québec, Canada, renowned for relentless, fast-paced assaults that blend raw aggression with experimental noise and technical precision. With roots in DIY ethics and a fiercely independent approach, the band has become a cornerstone of modern grindcore.

From DIY Project to Grindcore Mainstay

Originally conceived as a solo recording project by Topon Das in 1997, the project was officially named Fuck the Facts in 1999. The band name itself is taken from a song by Naked City, reflecting their influences and underground sensibilities. Early recordings, including split tapes with S.M.E.S. and Mastectomia, helped the project gain recognition among grindcore and noise fans worldwide. In 2000, the first full-length CD, Vagina Dancer, was recorded, and the positive response prompted Topon Das to assemble a full band in 2001 to continue the project.

Describing their own sound as “Bastardised Grindcore”, Fuck the Facts have always fused the intensity of grind with experimental noise and technical creativity. Mel Mongeon joined the band in 2002, contributing vocals and all of the band’s artwork, helping define the visual as well as the musical identity of Fuck the Facts.

Ex-bassist Steve Chartier, who also runs the label Capital Kill Records, co-released the Legacy of Hopelessness EP in 2005.

Touring guitarist Johnny Ibay joined in 2008 and became a full member in 2010.

The current line-up features Topon Das on guitars (1999–present), Mel Mongeon on vocals (2002–present), Mathieu “Vil” Vilandré on drums (2006–present; guitars 2005–2006), Adam Pell on guitars (2019–present), and Seb Choquette on bass (2023–present). Together, they continue to push the boundaries of grindcore while retaining a fiercely DIY ethos.
