The Hungarian instrumental post-rock band Törzs was formed in 2014. Based in Budapest, the trio are known for their immersive, carefully layered soundscapes and patient songwriting style. The current lineup features Soma Balázs on guitar, Dániel Nyitray on bass, and Tamás Szijártó on drums, who joined the band recently. The founding drummer, Zsombor Lehoczky, stepped away from the band and from music in 2023, marking the end of an era for the trio.
Blending post-rock with ambient and psychedelic textures, Törzs focus on gradual build and tonal depth rather than immediacy. Their compositions evolve naturally, favouring atmosphere and cohesion over showmanship.
A defining chapter in their history came with the recording of their 2019 album Tükör, captured in a UNESCO World Heritage cave system 500 metres underground. The natural acoustics of the cave setting gave the record a distinctive resonance, reinforcing the band’s commitment to space, depth, and sonic immersion. This attention to environment reflects their broader creative philosophy — thoughtful, restrained, and deliberately expansive.
