Eluveitie are a Swiss folk-metal band from Winterthur, Zürich, founded in 2002 by multi-instrumentalist Chrigel Glanzmann. They blend melodic death metal with traditional Celtic folk instrumentation—hurdy-gurdy, violin, whistles and bagpipes—creating a distinctive sound that helped define modern folk metal.
Originally a studio project (the Vên demo, 2003), Eluveitie quickly grew into a full band and earned international acclaim with albums such as Spirit (2006) and Slania (2008). Their music combines harsh and clean vocals, folk melodies and heavy riffs, and their sound evolved through releases like Everything Remains (As It Never Was) (2010) and Ategnatos (2019).
The band’s current lineup includes Chrigel Glanzmann (vocals, mandola, whistles, pipes, acoustic guitar, bodhrán), Fabienne Erni (vocals, Celtic harp), Rafael Salzmann (lead guitar), Jonas Wolf (rhythm guitar), Kay Brem (bass), Alain Ackermann (drums), and Lea-Sophie Fischer (violin, hurdy-gurdy) — Lea-Sophie joining the group as violinist/hurdy-gurdy player in 2024 and appearing on the band’s 2025 album Ànv.
Eluveitie continue to tour internationally and release music that honours Celtic tradition while pushing metal’s boundaries — their 2025 album Ànv is the latest example of that evolution.
