Dark Angel are an American thrash metal band formed in Los Angeles, California in 1981. They are widely regarded as one of the most extreme and influential bands of the early thrash metal movement, known for their speed, technical complexity, and aggressive songwriting.
Often associated with the development of “technical thrash,” Dark Angel pushed the boundaries of speed and intensity beyond many of their contemporaries.
Dark Angel’s sound is defined by rapid-fire drumming, intricate guitar work, and dense, fast-paced compositions. Their music is often longer and more complex than traditional thrash, with a strong emphasis on intensity and structure.
The band are particularly known for their drummer Gene Hoglan, whose technical speed became highly influential in extreme metal.
