Grave are a Swedish death metal band from Visby, formed in 1988. As one of the earliest pioneers of the Stockholm death metal scene, Grave played a key role in shaping the raw, HM-2-driven sound that became synonymous with Swedish death metal in the early 1990s.
Known for their heavy riffs, mid-tempo brutality, and dark atmospheres, Grave have remained one of the most consistent forces in old-school death metal across multiple decades.
Grave’s sound is defined by thick, chainsaw-style guitar tones, crushing mid-paced riffing, and a strong emphasis on groove and weight rather than speed alone.
Their approach helped establish the blueprint for early Swedish death metal alongside other foundational acts of the Stockholm scene, blending raw aggression with a distinct sonic identity.
Into the Grave (1991) – debut album and a landmark release in early Swedish death metal, featuring raw production, heavy riffing, and a defining HM-2 guitar tone.
You'll Never See… (1992) – follow-up album expanding their sound with more groove-oriented songwriting and slightly refined production.
Soulless (1994) – darker and heavier release with a stronger focus on mid-tempo brutality and atmospheric density.
Hating Life (1996) – more groove-driven and modernised approach compared to their early 90s material.
Back from the Grave (2002) – comeback album returning to their classic death metal sound with renewed intensity and tighter production.
Fiendish Regression (2004) – continuation of their comeback era with aggressive songwriting and a balance of old-school and modern elements.
As Rapture Comes (2006) – heavier and more refined release featuring darker tones and more structured compositions.
Dominion VIII (2008) – return to a rawer, more aggressive style with strong old-school influences.
Burial Ground (2010) – modern production paired with classic Swedish death metal brutality.
Endless Procession of Souls (2012) – return to a more traditional sound with strong HM-2 guitar presence and mid-paced heaviness.
Out of Respect for the Dead (2015) – final studio album to date, combining their classic tone with polished modern production.
