Tygers of Pan Tang are an English heavy metal band formed in Whitley Bay, North East England in 1978. They are widely regarded as one of the key bands of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM), known for their raw energy, melodic riffs, and early contributions to the UK metal scene.
The band’s name is taken from the fictional cats in Michael Moorcock’s fantasy literature, reflecting the fantasy and mythological influences common in early heavy metal.
