Brutal Truth are an American grindcore band from New York City, formed in 1990 by bassist Dan Lilker (ex-Anthrax, Nuclear Assault and Stormtroopers of Death). Brutal Truth became one of the defining bands of 1990s grindcore, known for their extreme speed, political themes, and experimental approach to noise and structure.
The band helped expand grindcore beyond its earliest UK foundations by incorporating elements of death metal, hardcore punk, and noise experimentation.
Brutal Truth’s sound is defined by blast-beat-driven intensity, distorted bass-forward production, and abrupt shifts between ultra-fast grind passages and slower, noise-heavy sections. Their music often incorporates samples, feedback, and experimental structures.
