Cryptic Shift are a Leeds band who built their whole identity around two obsessions, science fiction and extreme metal. They started writing together around 2010, then locked in the band properly in the early 2010s and tightened their sound into a sharp blend of technical thrash and death metal. Fast, intricate, and packed with weird turns that still land like proper riffs, not just showing off.
The breakthrough moment is their debut full length Visitations From Enceladus, released in 2020. It is a concept record that feels like one long chase scene through a cosmic horror novel. Long tracks, sudden tempo flips, and a lot of detail that rewards repeat listens. It also became the album that pulled them onto a much bigger radar, because it sounded like its own world rather than a copy of anyone else.
They have kept the story moving since then. Their next chapter is Overspace and Supertime, due in February 2026, and it continues the same sci fi themes with an even bigger, more confident sound. If you like your metal technical but still nasty, with artwork and lore you can actually sink into, this is exactly the right corner of the site.
