GBH are an English punk rock band from Birmingham, England, formed in 1978. Originally known as Charged GBH, the band became one of the defining acts of the UK82 movement and helped shape the development of hardcore punk through their aggressive sound, relentless touring, and influential early recordings.
Combining the speed and attitude of punk rock with a heavier, more metallic edge, GBH became a major influence on both hardcore punk and the emerging thrash metal scene. Their impact can be heard across generations of punk, crossover, and extreme metal bands.
GBH's sound is built around fast-paced riffs, aggressive vocals, driving rhythms, and an uncompromising punk attitude. Emerging alongside bands such as Discharge, The Exploited, and The Varukers, they helped define the harder and heavier direction of early 1980s British punk.
The band's music bridged the gap between traditional punk rock and the more extreme sounds that would influence crossover thrash and speed metal. Decades after their formation, GBH continue to be regarded as one of the most influential and enduring bands in hardcore punk.
