Descendents are an American punk rock band formed in Manhattan Beach, California in 1977 by guitarist Frank Navetta, bassist Tony Lombardo, and drummer Bill Stevenson. With the addition of vocalist Milo Aukerman, the band became one of the most influential acts in the history of punk rock, helping define the sound of melodic hardcore and pop-punk decades before either term became widely used.
Combining the speed and energy of Southern California punk with melodic songwriting, humour, and deeply personal lyrics, Descendents created a blueprint that would influence generations of punk, hardcore, skate punk, and alternative rock bands.
Descendents’ sound combines punk rock urgency, hardcore intensity, catchy melodies, and introspective lyricism.
