Nachtmystium are an American psychedelic black metal band formed in DeKalb, Illinois in 2000 by vocalist and guitarist Blake Judd. Emerging from the United States underground black metal scene, the band became widely recognised for pushing black metal into increasingly experimental territory through the incorporation of psychedelic rock, industrial textures, progressive structures, and dark atmospheric elements.
Across their career, Nachtmystium developed from a raw USBM act into one of the most influential and controversial experimental black metal bands of the 2000s.
Nachtmystium’s sound combines black metal aggression with psychedelic rock textures, progressive songwriting, ambient experimentation, and hypnotic atmosphere. Their music frequently explores themes of occultism, addiction, self-destruction, altered consciousness, and psychological decay.
