Bongzilla are an American Sludge metal band from Madison, Wisconsin, formed in 1995. Firmly rooted in the Doom metal scene, their sound is built on slow, crushing riffs, thick layers of fuzz, and abrasive vocals, paired with a lyrical focus that rarely drifts far from weed culture. The result is a dense, unfiltered take on stoner doom that has earned them a long-standing place in the underground heavy scene.
Formed in the mid-90s, Bongzilla quickly settled into a style that prioritises weight over speed. Their music leans on repetition, groove, and distortion, often stretching ideas out rather than rushing through them.
As part of the wider Doom and Sludge movement, their approach sits comfortably alongside the genre’s slower, riff-driven traditions. Across the years, their releases have remained consistent—thick, hazy, and unapologetically niche. It’s not especially subtle, but that’s part of the appeal.
The current line-up features Michael “Muleboy” Makela on guitars and vocals (1995–2009, 2015–present), later also handling bass, alongside Jeff “Spanky” Schultz on guitars (1995–2009, 2015–present) and Michael “Magma” Henry on drums (1995–2009, 2015–present). Together, they continue to carry the band’s slow-burning, riff-heavy sound forward.
This page focuses primarily on Bongzilla T-shirts and hoodies, sourced from official suppliers and produced to a high standard. Designs reflect the band’s hazy, riff-heavy aesthetic, with artwork that fits comfortably alongside the slower, heavier end of the metal spectrum.
Stock rotates regularly, so if something catches your eye, it’s worth picking it up while available. We’re also looking to expand the range with more T-shirts, hoodies, and accessories in the near future. We do occasionally carry releases on CD and vinyl alongside the apparel selection.
