IDLES are a British rock band formed in Bristol in 2009, known for their explosive energy, politically charged lyrics, and fierce live performances. Fusing post-punk aggression with raw emotion and sharp social commentary, IDLES have become one of the most vital and uncompromising voices in modern rock.
Fronted by Joe Talbot (vocals), with Mark Bowen (guitar), Lee Kiernan (guitar), Adam Devonshire (bass), and Jon Beavis (drums), IDLES channel frustration, vulnerability, and defiance into anthems of resistance and solidarity. Their sound — a blend of jagged guitar riffs, pounding rhythms, and cathartic lyrics — captures both personal pain and collective hope.
Their debut album Brutalism (2017) immediately set them apart as one of the UK’s most exciting new acts, praised for its honesty and intensity. The follow-up, Joy As An Act of Resistance (2018), cemented their reputation with its unapologetic message of empathy and strength through vulnerability. Subsequent albums, including Ultra Mono (2020) and Crawler (2021), have seen the band evolve sonically while maintaining their passionate, socially conscious ethos.
