Grim Reaper are an English heavy metal band formed in Droitwich, Worcestershire in 1979. They are widely regarded as one of the most recognisable bands from the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM), known for their soaring vocals, melodic guitar work, and classic 1980s metal sound.
Fronted by vocalist Steve Grimmett, the band became known for their polished yet energetic approach to traditional heavy metal.
Grim Reaper’s sound is defined by high-register vocals, dual-guitar harmonies, and an accessible but powerful heavy metal style. Their music sits between traditional British heavy metal and the more melodic, radio-friendly side of 1980s metal.
They achieved particular recognition in the US metal scene thanks to strong MTV-era exposure.
See You in Hell (1983) – debut album and NWOBHM classic featuring the title track that became their signature anthem.
Fear No Evil (1985) – follow-up release with a more polished production and broader melodic appeal.
Rock You to Hell (1987) – final 1980s album, showcasing a more commercial hard rock sound while retaining their metal identity.
