Refused

3 Products

Refused are a Swedish hardcore punk band from Umeå, formed in 1991. Regarded as one of the most innovative and influential bands in modern hardcore, they transformed the genre by combining hardcore punk with elements of post-hardcore, jazz, electronic music, and experimental rock, inspiring countless artists across heavy music.

Fronted by vocalist Dennis Lyxzén (The (International) Noise Conspiracy), Refused built a reputation for uncompromising political ideals, explosive live performances, and a fearless approach to musical experimentation. Although the band initially disbanded shortly after releasing their most acclaimed work, their influence continued to grow, culminating in a celebrated reunion that introduced their music to a new generation of listeners.

Hardcore Punk, Post-Hardcore, and Experimental Innovation

Refused's sound combines blistering hardcore aggression with angular guitar work, complex rhythms, electronic textures, jazz influences, and thought-provoking political lyricism. Their willingness to challenge the conventions of hardcore helped redefine the genre and paved the way for many experimental punk and post-hardcore bands that followed.

Their music balances uncompromising intensity with adventurous songwriting, creating a catalogue that remains as influential today as it was upon its original release.
