Vreid are a Norwegian black metal band formed in 2004, rising from the ashes of Windir following the passing of Terje “Valfar” Bakken. Rather than replicate the past, the band forged a sound rooted firmly in black metal, sharpened with heavy metal groove and a distinctly cold, atmospheric edge.
There’s a sense of purpose to Vreid’s music — direct, often austere, but never without weight. Their work frequently draws on themes of war, resistance, and history, delivered through driving riffs and a steady undercurrent of Scandinavian bleakness.
The band consists of Jarle "Hváll" Kvåle (bass), Jørn "Steingrim" Holen (drums), Sture Dingsøyr (vocals, guitars), and Stian “Strom” Bakketeig (guitars) — a lineup that has remained consistent and central to their identity since the beginning.
