Tankard are a German thrash metal band formed in Frankfurt in 1982. They are widely regarded as one of the “Big Four” of Teutonic thrash metal alongside Kreator, Sodom, and Destruction.
Unlike many of their peers, Tankard built a reputation for combining aggressive thrash metal with humour, particularly centered around alcohol culture and partying.
Tankard’s sound is defined by fast, straightforward thrash riffs, shouted vocals, and a strong punk influence. Their lyrics often revolve around beer, partying, and social satire delivered with tongue-in-cheek humour.
The band remain one of the most consistent and enduring bands in German thrash metal.
