Explore our collection of physical music from Chat Pile, the Oklahoma City band whose punishing mixture of noise rock, sludge metal and industrial unease has made them one of the most distinctive heavy acts to emerge in recent years.
Formed in 2019, Chat Pile combine abrasive guitars, lurching rhythms and intensely expressive vocals with lyrics exploring anxiety, violence, isolation and the darker corners of modern life. Their music can be confrontational and deeply uncomfortable, but there is a sharp sense of observation, bleak humour and genuine humanity running underneath the noise.
Chat Pile made their full-length debut with God’s Country in 2022. Built around crushing low-end, unsettling atmosphere and vivid storytelling, the record quickly established the band far beyond their local Oklahoma scene.
The 2024 follow-up Cool World broadened the scale of their sound and subject matter, retaining the band’s raw intensity while introducing further elements of alternative rock, post-punk and industrial music. Chat Pile later worked with guitarist Hayden Pedigo on In the Earth Again, a collaborative release that placed their usual heaviness alongside quieter and more spacious arrangements.
Chat Pile continue their catalogue with Who Loves the Sun, due for release on 4 September 2026 through The Flenser. Led by the single Deep Blue, the album turns the band’s attention towards technology, inequality, environmental collapse and the difficulty of holding on to your humanity in an increasingly hostile world.
While those themes are unlikely to make particularly relaxing background music, Chat Pile have never been interested in looking away from difficult subjects. Their combination of noise, tension and unnervingly direct storytelling gives their records an identity that is entirely their own.
