Jagged City are an international instrumental post-rock project formed through a collaboration between Jake Woodruff (Defeater), Carlos Torres (former touring member of Explosions in the Sky), and drummer/producer Urian Hackney. Emerging in the mid-2020s, Jagged City blend post-rock atmosphere with post-hardcore intensity and experimental composition.
Built as a long-distance creative project, the band developed their sound through cross-continental collaboration, resulting in a raw yet layered approach to instrumental music that balances restraint with explosive dynamics.
Jagged City’s sound is defined by shimmering guitar textures, driving rhythmic sections, and a balance between minimalism and sudden intensity. Their compositions often avoid traditional post-rock clichés, focusing instead on tension, space, and emotional impact.
