Bullet For My Valentine are a Welsh metal band formed in Bridgend in 1998 by vocalist and guitarist Matthew Tuck alongside guitarist Michael "Padge" Paget, drummer Michael "Moose" Thomas, and original bassist Nick Crandle when the group was performing under the name Jeff Killed John. Crandle departed shortly before the recording sessions for the band's self-titled EP and was replaced by bassist Jason James, with the band adopting the name Bullet For My Valentine soon afterwards.
Emerging during the rise of modern metalcore in the early 2000s, the band became known for combining aggressive riffs, melodic guitar leads, powerful choruses and technical musicianship. Drawing influence from traditional heavy metal, thrash metal and melodic death metal, Bullet For My Valentine helped establish themselves as one of the leading bands of the metalcore movement, bringing the genre to a wider audience through a blend of intensity, melody and accessibility.
Following their name change and breakthrough success, Bullet For My Valentine quickly became one of the most prominent British metal bands of the 2000s. Their music balances twin-guitar harmonies, fast-paced riffing and emotionally charged songwriting, helping the band move from the underground scene to major festivals and international tours.
Across multiple line-up changes and stylistic shifts, Bullet For My Valentine have remained a significant force in contemporary metal, with a catalogue that spans metalcore, heavy metal, hard rock and thrash influences.
