Misfits are an American horror punk band from Lodi, New Jersey, formed in 1977 by vocalist Glenn Danzig and bassist Jerry Only. Widely regarded as the pioneers of horror punk, the band combined the raw energy of punk rock with imagery inspired by classic horror films, science fiction, and B-movies, creating one of the most recognisable identities in alternative music.

Despite numerous line-up changes and periods of inactivity, Misfits have remained one of punk's most influential bands. Their distinctive visual style, memorable songwriting, and enduring "Fiend" logo have become iconic within punk culture, while their music has inspired generations of punk, hardcore, metal, and alternative artists.

Horror Punk, Hardcore, and Cult Iconography

Misfits' sound combines fast-paced punk rock with melodic hooks, horror-themed lyrics, rock and roll influences, and elements of hardcore punk. Drawing inspiration from classic monster movies and science fiction, the band created a style that was both theatrical and instantly recognisable, helping establish an entirely new subgenre of punk.

Across multiple eras featuring both Glenn Danzig and later incarnations led by Jerry Only, the band's music has continued to attract new generations of fans while maintaining its cult appeal.
