Ariana Grande-Butera is an American pop singer, songwriter, and actress, more commonly known as Ariana Grande. Born on 26 June 1993 in Boca Raton, Florida, she first became widely known through television before building a successful music career that has made her one of the most recognisable artists of her generation.
Grande's music combines contemporary Pop with R&B, Soul, and Electronic influences, while her distinctive vocal performances have become a defining part of her sound. From early hits such as "Baby I" and "One Last Time" to later successes including "God Is a Woman", "No Tears Left to Cry", and "We Can't Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)", she has built a catalogue spanning multiple eras and styles.
Grande began performing at a young age, appearing in musical theatre before making her Broadway debut in the musical 13 in 2008. She gained wider recognition after being cast as Cat Valentine in the Nickelodeon series Victorious, a role she continued in the spin-off Sam & Cat. Her television success helped establish her as a young performer while she began developing her music career alongside acting.
After signing with Republic Records, Grande released her debut album Yours Truly in 2013. The record introduced her as a recording artist, with "The Way" featuring Mac Miller becoming one of her early breakthrough singles. She followed it with My Everything in 2014, which included "Problem", "Break Free", and "Love Me Harder", helping her reach a much larger international audience.
Grande continued to evolve with Dangerous Woman in 2016, which introduced a more mature sound and incorporated stronger R&B influences. Sweetener followed in 2018, featuring songs such as "No Tears Left to Cry", before Grande released Thank U, Next in 2019. The album continued her musical evolution, with "7 Rings" becoming one of its major singles. She continued this progression with Positions in 2020 and Eternal Sunshine in 2024, while also returning to acting with her role as Glinda in the 2024 film Wicked, alongside Cynthia Erivo.
