Blitz were an English punk band formed in New Mills, Derbyshire in 1980 by vocalist and bassist Carl Fisher, guitarist Nidge Miller, drummer Mackie, and guitarist Steve English. Emerging from the early UK Oi! and street punk movement, the band became one of the most respected and influential acts in the genre through their aggressive sound, singalong choruses, and emotionally charged songwriting.
Across their career, Blitz gained a devoted following for blending raw punk energy with darker melodic elements and socially reflective themes.
Blitz’s sound combines aggressive punk riffs, anthemic choruses, melodic hooks, and emotionally resonant songwriting. Their music frequently explores themes of working-class life, alienation, violence, personal struggle, social frustration, and rebellion.
The band are especially recognised for helping expand the emotional and musical range of Oi! and street punk beyond straightforward aggression.
