Personal loss and economic hardship during Ireland’s recession played a major role in shaping Meryl Streek both creatively and politically. A seven year move to Canada gave him distance and perspective, sharpening his focus on inequality, labour and the realities of modern life back home.
The music of Meryl Streek is raw, uncompromising and direct, combining abrasive textures with pointed commentary. It is experimental without losing urgency, built to challenge listeners while staying grounded in real world frustration and resistance.
