Suicide was an American musical duo composed of vocalist Alan Vega and instrumentalist Martin Rev, intermittently active between 1970 and 2016. They are widely recognised as pioneers of electronic and minimalist music, combining synthesizers, primitive drum machines, and raw vocal delivery to create a sound that was as innovative as it was confrontational.
The band’s early performances were infamous for their intensity, often challenging audiences with confrontational energy and at times resulting in violent reactions. Despite—or perhaps because of—this unpredictability, Suicide’s influence on electronic, punk, industrial, and post-punk music has been profound, inspiring generations of artists from across the musical spectrum.
Their music combined stripped-down electronic instrumentation with Alan Vega’s charismatic and sometimes abrasive vocal style, creating tracks that felt simultaneously hypnotic, threatening, and urgent.
