The Saints are an Australian punk rock band formed in Brisbane in 1973, widely regarded as one of the pioneering acts of punk music worldwide. Founded by singer-songwriter Chris Bailey, drummer Ivor Hay, and guitarist-songwriter Ed Kuepper, the band combined raw energy, catchy hooks, and confrontational lyrics, helping to define the early punk movement alongside contemporaries like the Ramones and the Sex Pistols.
The Saints’ music is characterized by fast, aggressive riffs, driving rhythms, and Bailey’s distinct vocals. While they began in punk, their later work explored rock, post-punk, and more experimental sounds, demonstrating the band’s versatility and longevity. Their recordings remain influential, with a legacy that has inspired generations of punk and alternative musicians worldwide.
Over the decades, The Saints underwent several lineup changes, but Chris Bailey remained the creative core until his death. The final lineup featured Chris Bailey on lead vocals and guitar, Peter Wilkinson on drums, Davey Lane on guitar, and Pat Bourke on bass, carrying the band’s signature energy and craftsmanship through their later recordings and live performances.
