Sodom are a German thrash metal band formed in Gelsenkirchen in 1982. They are widely regarded as one of the pioneering acts of Teutonic thrash metal alongside Kreator, Destruction, and Tankard, and are known for their raw aggression and influence on early extreme metal.
Fronted by bassist/vocalist Tom Angelripper, Sodom developed a reputation for their uncompromising sound and war-themed lyrical approach.
Sodom’s sound is defined by fast, abrasive riffing, harsh vocals, and a gritty, unpolished edge, especially in their early releases. Their music often focuses on war, history, and anti-war commentary.
The band played a key role in shaping the transition from thrash metal to more extreme forms such as death and black metal.
