Absent In Body are an experimental sludge and post-metal supergroup formed in Belgium around 2017 (sometimes cited as 2015). The band was created by Mathieu Vandekerckhove and Colin H. Van Eeckhout of (Amenra), alongside Scott Kelly (Neurosis) and Iggor Cavalera (Sepultura). Their music combines the weight of sludge with the atmosphere of post-metal, creating compositions that are both punishing and immersive.
The supergroup emerged from Europe’s and the US’s underground metal scenes, quickly drawing attention for their intricate layering, slow-building intensity, and emotionally charged performances. Absent In Body craft music that is cinematic, atmospheric, and often unsettling — a perfect fusion of their members’ heavy influences.
The current lineup features Mathieu Vandekerckhove and Colin H. Van Eeckhout and Iggor Cavalera. Together, they have maintained a vision of heavy, immersive music that balances crushing riffs with expansive soundscapes, exploring both tension and release.
