Airbourne are an Australian hard rock band formed in Warrnambool, Victoria in 2001 by brothers Joel O'Keeffe (lead vocals/guitar) and Ryan O'Keeffe (drums). Guitarist David Roads joined the band in 2002, followed by bassist Justin Street in 2004, completing the line-up that would go on to establish Airbourne as one of Australia's leading modern hard rock bands. Following several line-up changes over the years, Brett Tyrrell became the band's current rhythm guitarist in 2023.
Known for their explosive live performances, high-octane guitar riffs and unmistakable hard rock attitude, Airbourne have built an international reputation by carrying forward the spirit of classic Australian rock. Their music combines hard rock, heavy metal and blues rock influences, delivering driving riffs, powerful choruses and relentless energy.
After years of touring Australia's pub and club circuit, Airbourne signed internationally and quickly established themselves as one of the most exciting hard rock acts of the 2000s. Their relentless touring schedule and energetic performances earned them a reputation for delivering old-school rock shows packed with power and intensity.
Albums including Runnin' Wild, No Guts. No Glory., Black Dog Barking, Breakin' Outta Hell, Boneshaker and their self-titled album Airbourne demonstrate the band's commitment to straightforward, riff-driven hard rock. Rather than chasing changing musical trends, Airbourne have remained true to a style built around memorable hooks, blues-inspired guitar work and stadium-sized choruses.
On 7 April 2017, founding rhythm guitarist David Roads announced that he would be leaving Airbourne to work in his family's business after fifteen years with the band. Joel O'Keeffe later explained that although Roads loved performing and appreciated the fans, life on the road had become increasingly difficult for him, and that he was happy to return home to work in the family business.
Today, Airbourne remain one of Australia's leading hard rock bands, continuing to bring their uncompromising brand of rock music to audiences around the world.
