Ceremony are an American punk band formed in Rohnert Park, California in 2004 by vocalist Ross Farrar, guitarists Anthony Anzaldo and Ryan Mattos, bassist Justin Davis, and drummer Jake Casarotti. Emerging from the Bay Area hardcore scene, the band quickly became one of the most influential and adventurous acts in modern punk through their constant stylistic evolution and refusal to repeat themselves.
Over the course of their career, Ceremony have transformed from a ferocious powerviolence-inspired hardcore band into a group incorporating post-hardcore, garage rock, post-punk, and new wave influences, while maintaining the intensity and creativity that made them underground favourites.
Ceremony’s sound combines hardcore punk aggression, post-hardcore experimentation, garage rock energy, post-punk atmosphere, and increasingly sophisticated songwriting. Their music frequently explores themes of alienation, personal identity, emotional turmoil, social frustration, introspection, and transformation.
