The Damned are an English punk rock band formed in London in 1976 by vocalist Dave Vanian, guitarist Brian James, bassist Captain Sensible, and drummer Rat Scabies. As one of the pioneering bands of the original UK punk movement, they achieved several historic firsts, including releasing the first UK punk single and the first UK punk studio album.
While initially emerging alongside the first wave of British punk, The Damned distinguished themselves through their musicianship, dark humour, and willingness to experiment beyond punk's traditional boundaries.
