Nothing are a shoegaze and dream pop band from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, known for their walls of distorted guitars, pummeling drums, angelic vocal harmonies, and soul-searching lyrics that explore hardship, loss, and emotional pain. Blending shoegaze’s immersive textures with a touch of grunge-inspired heaviness, Nothing has become a defining act in modern alternative music.
Founder Domenic "Nicky" Palermo was previously a member of the hardcore punk band Horror Show, a short-lived group that released two EPs. In 2002, Palermo was involved in a violent altercation between rival gangs and spent two years in jail for aggravated assault and attempted murder, a period he later described as a “violent time” in the hardcore scene.
Following his release, Palermo left punk bands behind, spent several years soul-searching, and eventually began making music again. In 2010, he released a demo under the name Nothing, titled Poshlost. Over the next few years, the band went through several line-up changes while releasing early EPs Suns and Lovers (2011) and Downward Years to Come (2012).
Nothing’s music is characterised by dense, distorted guitars, driving drums, and introspective lyrics, drawing inspiration from classic shoegaze bands such as My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive, while incorporating elements of post-hardcore and alternative rock.
The current line-up consists of Domenic "Nicky" Palermo on vocals and guitar (2010–present), Doyle Martin on guitar and backing vocals (2019–present), Zachary Jones on drums (2022–present), Bobb Bruno on bass (2023–present), and Cam Smith on guitar and backing vocals (2025–present).
All releases are available on CD and vinyl, ideal for collectors and fans of immersive shoegaze and dream pop.
