Formed in 1985 in Peekskill, New York, initially under the name Tokyo, Toxik was founded by Josh Christian (guitars) and Lee Ervin (bass). The original line-up also included Sal Dadabo on drums and Mike Sanders on vocals. Shortly after formation, the band was forced to change their name to Toxik due to legal threats from another group using the same moniker.
Early line-up changes saw Lee Ervin leave for personal reasons, replaced by Brian Bonini on bass, while Tad Leger stepped in on drums as a last-minute replacement for Sal Dadabo, who had been offered a touring deal with Twisted Sister — though that deal ultimately never happened.
Toxik quickly made a name for themselves with a technically demanding yet surprisingly listenable blend of thrash. Their riffs are sharp, solos blistering, and the melodies stick long after the music ends. This earned them a deal with Roadrunner Records in 1987 and tours with King Diamond, Sepultura, and Pantera. Despite their success, the band disbanded in 1992, though they have since reformed twice, continuing to push their signature technical thrash sound.
The current line-up features Josh Christian on guitars, Jim DeMaria on drums, Shane Boulos on bass, Ron Iglesias handling vocals and guitars, and Eric van Druten on rhythm guitars.
