Warrant are an American glam metal band formed in 1984 in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California. They achieved international success between 1989 and 1996, with five albums collectively selling over 10 million copies worldwide.
The band first captured national attention with their double platinum debut album Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich, which included the hit single “Heaven”, reaching No. 1 in Rolling Stone and No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. Their momentum continued into the early 1990s with the double platinum follow-up Cherry Pie, featuring the eponymous hit single that became a defining anthem of the glam metal era.
Warrant are known for combining flashy riffs, polished production, and melodic hooks, making their music both instantly recognisable and enduring in the rock canon. Their work exemplifies the glitzy, high-energy sound of late 1980s and early 1990s American hard rock.
The classic, most recognised lineup of Warrant featured Jani Lane on vocals, whose melodic voice and songwriting defined hits like Heaven and Cherry Pie. Joey Allen played guitar, providing melodic riffs and solos that helped shape the band’s twin-guitar sound, while Erik Turner contributed harmonies and solid rhythm guitar work across their early albums. Anchoring the rhythm section was Jerry Dixon on bass, delivering driving lines that gave the songs their power, and Steven Sweet on drums, whose precise, energetic playing completed the tight performances that made Warrant one of the defining glam metal bands of their era.
