Formed in 2017, Witch Fever emerged from Manchester’s close-knit alternative music scene with a reputation for heavy riffs, raw energy and lyrics that refuse to tiptoe around difficult subjects. Rather than settling neatly into a single genre, the band combine abrasive guitars, pounding rhythms and moments of eerie atmosphere with the commanding vocals of Amy Walpole.
Witch Fever introduced their uncompromising approach through early singles including Bezerk(h)er, The Hallow and In Birth. The 2021 EP Reincarnate developed that sound further, combining the weight of doom and sludge with the urgency of punk and the rough edges of early grunge.
Their debut album, Congregation, followed in 2022. Across tracks such as Blessed Be Thy, I Saw You Dancing and the title track, the band confront themes including religious control, misogyny, personal autonomy and the pressure placed upon people who refuse to conform.
Congregation established Witch Fever as one of the most distinctive heavy bands to emerge from the UK in recent years. Its combination of crushing guitar work, punk immediacy and cathartic songwriting helped the band reach audiences well beyond the Manchester scene.
Witch Fever returned in 2025 with their second studio album, FEVEREATEN. Featuring songs including SAFE, THE GARDEN, FINAL GIRL and the title track, the record broadened the band’s sound without losing the intensity, honesty or refusal to play by somebody else’s rules that defined their earlier work.
