Allegaeon are an American technical death metal band formed in Fort Collins, Colorado in 2008. Known for combining blistering technicality with memorable melodies and progressive songwriting, the band have established themselves as one of the leading names in modern technical death metal.
Blending Death metal with Progressive metal and elements of symphonic music and classical music, Allegaeon have developed a sound built around intricate guitar work, precision musicianship and thought-provoking lyrical themes. Their music explores subjects ranging from science and philosophy to nature and human existence, setting them apart within the contemporary extreme metal scene.
The band has experienced several lineup changes throughout its career while continuing to refine its sound. Guitarist Greg Burgess remains the sole founding member, providing the creative direction that has defined Allegaeon's evolution across more than a decade of acclaimed releases.
The band originally formed under the name Allegiance, performing between 2006 and 2008. After discovering that several other bands were already using it, they adopted the name Allegaeon. Shortly after the change, the group independently released their self-titled EP in 2008, helping attract the attention of Metal Blade Records and marking the beginning of their rise within the technical death metal scene.
With each subsequent release, Allegaeon expanded their sound by incorporating progressive arrangements, atmospheric passages and increasingly sophisticated compositions without sacrificing the aggression at the core of their music. Extensive touring alongside some of extreme metal's biggest names further strengthened their reputation as one of the genre's premier live acts.
Today, Allegaeon continue to push the boundaries of technical death metal while remaining true to the combination of precision, melody and innovation that has defined the band since its earliest days as Allegiance.
