Angels & Airwaves (AVA) is Tom DeLonge’s “big-screen” rock project — all wide-open melodies, spacey textures and emotional punch, built for night drives and headphone listens. Formed after Blink-182 went on hiatus in 2005, the band has always leaned into atmosphere as much as riffs: alternative rock with a space-rock glow, cinematic intros, and choruses that feel properly massive without needing to shout about it.
Part of the fun with AVA is how consistent the world-building is. The music, artwork and visuals make it feel like a connected universe rather than a random run of releases — and it suits the way the songs tend to aim high: hope, doubt, distance, disaster, romance, escape. If you’re the type who likes an album to feel like a full “thing” rather than a playlist, you’ll get why people stick with them.
If you’re starting from scratch, We Don’t Need to Whisper is the clean entry point (huge hooks, big mood), I-Empire pushes the rock side harder, and later records like Lifeforms bring a tighter, more modern edge while keeping that AVA atmosphere intact.
