Pentagram are an American doom metal band originally formed in Alexandria, Virginia in the early 1970s by vocalist and songwriter Bobby Liebling. Widely regarded as one of the pioneering bands of doom metal, they helped shape the genre, heavily influenced by the early work of Black Sabbath, through dark heavy riffs, blues-based heaviness, and occult-inspired atmosphere.
Although the band struggled for mainstream recognition during their early years, Pentagram later became revered as one of the foundational and most influential cult bands in doom metal history.
Pentagram’s sound combines slow crushing doom riffs with hard rock groove, blues-influenced songwriting, and dark lyrical themes. Their music bridges the gap between 1970s heavy rock and the later evolution of traditional doom metal.
