Sepultura are a Brazilian extreme metal band formed in Belo Horizonte in 1984 by brothers Max and Igor Cavalera. Widely regarded as one of the most influential names in heavy music, Sepultura helped push extreme metal into new territory by combining thrash, death and groove metal with Brazilian percussion and tribal influences.
From their early underground releases through to landmark albums such as Beneath the Remains, Arise, Chaos A.D. and Roots, the band built a worldwide following and a visual identity that remains instantly recognisable to metal fans.

Sepultura's early material developed from raw death and thrash metal before the band moved towards the heavier groove-led sound that defined much of their 1990s output. Their use of Brazilian percussion and indigenous musical influences became particularly prominent on Chaos A.D. and Roots, helping give the band a sound that stood apart from their contemporaries.
